[The world was one of a constant, strange, cyclical war.
When the night fell on the highest moon of the furthest month, a Howling Storm took the planet, cut its cities off from each other and the visitors from their homes, When the Storm's first whining, hot wind struck, the imposing gates of the iridescent metal of this world would close, folding up and over, in a wall only Qlipoth could love.
The thud of bodies, the scrape of claws, mandibles and fangs added to the cacophony that the setting of the red sun provoked. It ebbed in the morning, but never enough to be safe. Never enough for the walls to come down.
In defiance, however, in these little hubs of survival, the nightlife was something quite impressive. Loud music played, lights blared, the night market was a roar of throats - the call of sellers and the flirtation of buyers.
All to carry on like a shield wasn't holding back the certain death of nearly everyone in the spaceport.
But you're here, waiting for the tired relief of morning. For the spaceport to open back up in a week.
It should have already ended. It SHOULD have been open yesterday.
But the Storm is longer than it's ever been here...]

Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
And then-- still pursued-- they're free and in the open vastness of space; there's a handful of buttons pressed, the kh-chuk of a lever pushed upwards, turned, and yanked down again, and the soft robotic warning of
Warp Jump Imminent. Warp Jump Imminent. Please remain seated. Warp Jump Charging. Please remain seated. Jump Proceeding in Five. Four. Three. Two. One.
and then there's the strange-- and familiar, to them both-- sensation of being pulled and stretched, then flung forward like a rubberband; it pins them both down against the wall they'd been slammed into, and Valencia into her seat.
He'd said fifteen parsecs so she'd mapped for sixteen; the ship cruises on the warp path for a good ten seconds before finally slowing, stars no longer streaking by like comets, the vast emptiness of space around them like a silent and comforting blanket. The ship's warp drive gives a brief warning-- low power-- before a couple of lights go out to conserve energy as a precaution, leaving the ship dimly lit.
Val stares blankly out the window for a long moment before she exhales, like she'd been holding her breath, her whole body slumping and exhausted down into her seat. ]
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
When Sett is finally, fully healed - emanator flesh is potent - he kind of just lies there, mostly dead, regenerating almost petulantly.]
I want. [He gurgles,] Fruit juice.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
So he's standing there, looking down on this wreck of a monster that. Okay he's not sure how much he spent feeling up and how much he spent trying to close off that windpipe for good and they ARE THE SAME FEELING IN HIS MEMORIES.
He's going to have so much to repress tonight.
He just. Picks him up by the waist and. Starts towards the kitchen-
It's minutes later that he darkens the doorway of the cockpit, Dan Feng, now with a cup of juice, and still dangling. ]
Hey boss. Good flying. Uh... how we lookin'?
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
... Low on power. Need to find the nearest star so the panels can charge up while I inspect the outside for damage.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
No. [Glug glug juice.] I need the Stellaron contained first or she will corrupt that star's core.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
His grip tightens slightly and he just considers shaking the smaller man. ]
Contain how?
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Then contain it on the way and call your Hunters to come pick you up. We won't be making landfall any time soon and I won't be housing you or your star cancer on my ship longer than I have to.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
[He twists in Sett's grip like an eel, trying to climb up his (massive) chest; how far he would get is up to the much larger man. He may be trying to bribe Sett with an orb of juice.]
I can reach into her and retrieve it, she's not the first receptacle I've handled. She'll be little more than scrap afterwards.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
[ WHY IS HE SO WRIGGLY? He bats away the orange orb YOUR PALTRY BRIBES WILL NOT WORK AGAINST HIM. HE IS LIKE, GRABBING AT HIM EVEN AS HE CLIMBS, TRYING TO TUCK HIM BACK INTO PROPER FOOTBALL POSITION. ]
You AINT killin' her to get it, either think of something else or I'm flushin' yer ass out the airlock.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
But after a moment she pauses. Then turns in her seat to look back at them-- around them-- as if checking for someone else, brows furrowed. ]
... Sorry, "her"?
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
[He jabs an elbow into Sett's side.]
If she channels that blessing properly, too, she would not be able to corrupt anything. Otherwise she would corrupt you, too, Settrigh, eventually. Fragmentum in your bones.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
I actually DON'T know if I can heal that...
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
[ whatever. Extending her telepathy out surely this will get her the answers they won't fucking tell her!!! ]
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Absurd. Have not all of us gone through a lot? Your hair is very soft.
[Reading Dan Feng's mind is an exercise in What the actual fuck is this mess?. There's squirming things in there, a stray thought or two about the last thing he ate (a credit card), the feeling of arms wrapping around you like a hug and the arms wrapping around you like a hug and arms wrapping around you like a hug, a very pervasive feeling of I love this one (1) person and I want to wear his skin, and what he intends to do to Valencia: sit next to her bed and watch her sleep and extract the Stellaron from her like a newborn star.
It's very clear. Mostly because he's done it before, several times, to people-shaped receptacles.]
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
There's worry. A cloud of it, a hazy little uncertainty that he's mostly trying not to feel.
He doesn't WANT to kill her but that was a Stellaron. It's still in his nose and now that he KNOWS he can pick up the ozone traces of it, crackling through his sinuses, coming from in her chest. It's still dark. It's fine.
What would fragmentum in his bones feel like?
... Maybe he could deal with it.
The squirmy bastard (fond) said she could channel it. He could deal with it til then. ]
If they come we kill em. Bugs taste like shit, but I'll deal. Show her how to channel it. Seems like the solution.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
She stares blankly at them both as they talk, but as she drops the telepathic connection they can definitely feel the edge of desperate confusion and dread on her end before it snaps away.
Oh. They're going to kill her, aren't they. Why bother bringing her back to the ship? Why bother stopping Dan Feng from killing her, earlier?
She sets the ship to autopilot and pushes herself up, looking a bit ill, and faint scent of ozone briefly drifting from her as she pushes past the both of them to unsteadily head to her room. ]
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Put me down! Can you scent the Fragmentum on her? If the Stellaron destabilizes on this tiny little ship--
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
[ He's not listening to the rest. Who cares about that. Why should he care about that??????
He follows her. ]
Val! VAL! Hang on, we gotta talk about shit.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
Enough. You're going to leave me alone, let me make myself a drink, and let me be alone in my room until I see fit to come out or so help me, by the Great One's Mercy, I will warp this ship directly into the blue sun of the Austere Storm's planetary system.
[ -- And then she turns, stopping at the minibar to pour herself a drink; the light and ozone smell both fade quickly enough, as she knocks back a shot of whiskey, then pours herself a second to take back with her as she throws her gun back over her shoulder. ]
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
He nudges Sett. Actually sort of puts his hand on the small of his back.
And then steps halfway behind him, hiding.]
You talk to her.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
He turns around. ]
WHY ARE YOU HIDING BEHIND ME????? You're industructable!! I TRIED.
[ Anyways. He breaths out and then- ]
Lets give her space.
Re: Thread splitting for fun and profit.
But she does pause in the archway of her door, before turning back to look at them. ]
... Sett. You can stay in here, for now.
[ Her room. ]
